
Discipleship in the Christian Faith is the process of cultivating followers of Jesus. However, what does this process involve? Being a disciple means we are being instructed in how to be more like Jesus. To disciple someone else means we are To instruct someone else in becoming a disciple of Jesus, we can’t rely solely on words; it is not something that can be academically taught, it is important for us to let others walk alongside us, observing our actions. Often, discipleship struggles in churches because we attempt to explain it rather than embodying it and dedicating the time to others, assisting them in navigating life’s challenges. True discipleship is a commitment, similar to authentic friendship that endures through life’s highs and lows. It requires prayer, a firm foundation in the Word, and goes beyond casual interactions or counseling. To genuinely create disciples of Jesus, we must actively engage in Christian friendships providing mutual support on our journey of sanctification and encouraging each other toward Christ.
The simplest and fastest way to connect with a disciple or someone to be discipled by is to approach the Christian friends whom the Lord has already brought into your life. Inquire about their journey with the Lord, request them to join you in studying the Word and praying together. As your relationships builds on the Lord, you will both grow in spiritual maturity, and understanding of the Lord and his will, and you will probably find that the role of discipler, and disciplee tends to shift back and forth the closer and longer your relationship is. For even better results, don’t just hang out when you need to handle Christian business.
Remember a few key points about discipleship: 1. Trust in God’s sovereignty, as He guides people into and out of your life. 2. Pray, read Scripture, and discuss the Lord’s work together with those He brings to you. 3. A healthy discipleship relationship resembles a close friendship in spiritual practice. Both will grow and learn from each other. 4. Spend time together outside of church activities, engaging in life together. 5. Be patient and merciful; true discipleship can be messy and challenging but remains grounded in prayer, Scripture, and the glorification of Jesus.
